Occult detective John Constantine has seen his share of strange things in his career, but nothing could prepare him for the horrors of... reality television. Haunted Mansion is currently the hottest show on TV, but when the macabre house actually starts attacking the contestants, Constantine is hired to be the ultimate mole. Locked inside with a cast of wannabe-celebrities, his every move being monitored by a deadly figure from his past, Constantine must figure out who (or what) is pulling the strings before he gets cancelled - permanently...

Dark Entries reflects, quite amusingly the current fad for cheaply produced, tacky reality TV shows like Big Brother.

Hellblazer's John Constantine is talked into appearing on a new reality TV show called Haunted Mansion. The show currently features a bunch of young individuals who have to stay in a haunted mansion. As the days go buy the studio intends to introduce spooky elements in order to get the contestants to quit the show and leave the premises. The winner is the one who can stay in the building long enough to discover the hidden prize, which is somewhere in the mansion in a hidden room.

The studio executives begin to experience some problems when the mansion starts to send its own ghosts at the contestants - each of which is now seeing what they are most scared of. It is then that the show's producers seek to employ Constantine's special skills to find out just what is going on.

However, once inside the building, Constantine soon realises that this is no ordinary game show and that something is very wrong indeed. Can he work out what is going on before his life is forfeit?

Ian Rankin weaves an interesting and original tale throughout this collection. There are a couple of nice twists, which I doubt many will see coming, and the conclusion is well handled. This is not just a collection for Hellblazer fans - there's something here for everyone.
