For the first time ever in the Star Wars: Battlefront series, players can fight on multi-level battlefronts, on the ground and in space. Players can start the fight on foot, commandeer a vehicle to battle on the ground or dogfight in space, and land their craft and fight on capital starships. The battles waged on each front are all directly effected by the player's actions, creating a combat experience where every shot fired and every enemy defeated can affect the outcome of a battle on another front...

Star Wars: Battlefront: Elite Squadron carries on the Battlefront franchise on the PSP. So those who have played this on the PC, the next gen console or the previous PSP outing will know what to expect. To be honest, it is more of the same, but with the limitations of the PSP it never quite manages to pull it off quite as neatly as it should have.

The game features a single player campaign that spans the entire Star Wars saga - and beyond. Take on the identity of X2, a clone trooper created from the DNA of a Jedi Master. Originally tasked with eliminating Jedi during Order 66, X2 decides to leave his blood-stained past behind and joins the Rebellion. X2 isn’t the only Force-sensitive clone, however. X1, his clone brother, chooses a much more sinister path, leading to a confrontation that could determine the fate of both the Empire and the Rebellion.

You can also engage in 16-player multiplayer games online - no surprises here it's your usual multiplayer games including team matches like Capture the Flag. This game also allows you to customise your character by choosing which weapons and items to help you in your battles. You can also chose your species, gender, appearance and physical strengths.

On first appearances, this game looks impressive. However, once you start playing seriously it soon becomes apparent that the control system is a bit of a pig to use. If you're using a weapon with a scope it takes a little too much time to get to grips with using it. The space battles can also be a bit of a nightmare when trying to lock on to an enemy ship.

While far, far away from a great game, Elite Squadron almost manages to capture the Star Wars: Battlefront experience on the PSP. A better control system and a camera system that actually worked would have made this a much better experience.
