Moviescore Media present the original soundtrack from the motion picture elements (cyber-bridges) of the online multimedia experience which is an interactive extension of the 'Level 26' book series by CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker. Dark Prophecy is the follow-up to the best-selling novel Dark Origins. Bill Brown's score fuses live orchestral elements with electronic and ambient textures, and features a number of thematic ideas. The album features dark suspense music and contrasting reflective underscoring, as well as some exciting action...
Bill Brown's score for Dark Prophecy is one that took me a few listens to appreciate fully. While there are some beautiful themes here (most notably the music that's at the core of 'Henry's Theme') the whole score is, on the whole, a little too quiet and mellow to be played in the background. This is a score that you need to give your full attention to.
This is a totally different project to Brown's score for The Devil's Tomb. There are more conventional themes and less music cues and atmospheric set pieces. This helps showcase, a little better, Brown's ability to deliver some beautiful themes.
Highlights for me included the beautiful 'Henry's Theme', 'Hangman', 'Victims and Vision', 'Death and Life' and 'I Choose Life'.
Tracks like 'Dark and Hilda' and 'Because you Care' are haunting and atmospheric but not ones I'd want to listen to very often. While they no doubt add much to the visuals, as standalone tracks they are a little flat.
Another track of note is 'Three of Cups' which reminded me of John Barry's eerie music for The Deep.
All in all this is an impressive offering from Brown. If beautiful, mellow themes are your thing then you'll absolutely love this soundtrack.
