When the Social Welfare Agency investigates the disappearance of an operative, their inquiry leads them right into the lair of their rival, the Five Republics. The assassin Triela infiltrates the hostile organization, but her search is cut short when she finds herself staring down the barrel of a gun...

If you've bought and enjoyed the first season of Gunslinger Girl, you might be a little disappointed by this second season. The story lines are not as strong which is a great shame as there was potential here to really deliver something the fan base would have enjoyed.

I'm not sure whether we received all of the discs for review (as the online stores seem to be charging over £20 I'm suspecting that the retail price is closer to £30 which is the usual price for a three disc set and we only received two discs). The press information we received didn't outline how many discs or what the retail price was, so I'm kind of groping around in the dark here. We received all of the episodes, but not the two OVA's that were produced. It could be that the third disc features the two OVA, or it could be that they are being released separately at a later date, but again I've no way of verifying this as the PR company didn't get back to us on our concerns.

The two disc set we received included all 13 episodes which follow the further exploits of the small trained assassins. The episodes tend to flit between the girls, so different episodes feature on one particular girl but there is an overall story arc that sees another organisation on the scene with a killer boy called Pinocchio who is working with a group of terrorists.

Extras include Japanese Cast Interview - Marco (20 min, 30 sec in which the Japanese voice artist for Angelica interviews the voice artist who plays Marco); Original TV Commercials and four textless opening and closing titles.

A rather disappointing follow up to the first series.
