Tintin, a young journalist, and his dog Snowy are about to unwittingly set off on a treasure hunt. When Tintin purchases an old model of a sailing ship, little does he suspect that inside is a map that will lead him to a sunken treasure ship. However, the mysterious Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine and his cronies are also on the trail of the treasure and won't let anything get in their way...

John Williams's score for The Adventures of Tintin will be a welcome addition to the music libraries of fans of his music. Not only does this soundtrack offer plenty of original music, but it also echoes thematic references to his earlier work, which will no doubt bring a smile to the faces of his hardcore followers.

The majority of the tracks here reminded me of work on three of his previous movie franchises (Indiana Jones; Harry Potter; and Star Wars), so if you were a fan of his music for those movies then you'll love this score.

Tracks like 'Snowy's Theme' are very similar in style to his work on Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Likewise, tracks like 'The Secret of the Scrolls' and 'Marlinspike Hall' brought to mind his music for the Harry Potter movies. And the opening track reminded me of James Horner's theme for Honey, I Shrunk the Kids crossed with a track the Cantina Band from Star Wars: IV - A New Hope may have composed.

The man still has the magic touch... and long may it continue.
