Scary Movie V (Original Motion Picture Score)

Composer: James L. Venable
Lakeshore Records
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 14 May 2013

The score for Scary Movie V is composed by James L. Venable who previously wrote the music for Zack and Miri Make a Porno and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). He also provided the scores for Scary Movie III and IV.

Highlights include 'Attacked, Possessed and Out to the Woods'; 'Finding the Cabin and Driving Home'; 'Cameras Up!'; and 'Caesar and the Baby'

John Williams is obviously a huge influence here. 'Don't Go in the Closet... or the Bathroom!' opens like a Harry Potter track and there are other examples of music that sound similar in style to Williams's work on Jurassic Park and Raiders of the Lost Ark. In addition there's a nod to the work of Garry Schyman - in fact 'Caesar and the Baby' reminded me of a cross between Williams's music for Raiders of the Lost Ark ('The Well of the Souls') and Schyman's work on the original BioShock game.

It's an interesting score - certainly one worth checking out. The album is a little on the short side, it contains 20 tracks and lasts for just 29 min, 06 sec.
