If you've previously bought David Arnold and Michael Price's score for Sherlock's first and second series, then you'll have already had this third collection on order for some time.

Plus points: Well, you've got to take your hat off to Arnold and Price - they don't simply regurgitate the music from the previous two series, with the obvious exception of the main theme - but even that is presented differently in the track '#SherlockLives'. Although 'Titles - 45 second version' (51 sec) is almost identical to the 'Main Titles' (40 sec) from the first collection - but this is hardly surprising. There are a couple of other echoes from the previous albums, but nothing that is blindingly obvious.

But, the negative points are... well... the majority of the music here isn't the sort of thing you'd sit and listen to in its own right. This is a score that works best when accompanying the onscreen action. Listened to on its own... well, it's mostly filler music that appears a little lifeless outside of the show.

Exceptions include 'How It Was Done'; 'Lazarus'; 'Magnussen'; 'Redbeard'; and 'Appledore' - but even then it's only short segments that are of interest.

The album contains 23 tracks (1 hr, 14 min). Personally, it's not a score I'd fancy listening to again outside of the show, but I'm sure there's a market here for hardcore fans.
