MovieScore Media release Kristin Øhrn Dyrud's experimental science fiction score for Coherence. Written and directed by James Ward Byrkit, Coherence is an independent science-fiction / relationship drama, focusing on the life of eight people caught up in the aftermath of an astronomical anomaly. The story takes place during a single night when a comet arrives to Earth with staggering consequences: glasses break, cellphones shatter and even the power goes off in all but one house in the street. The unusual circumstances also bring out the buried issues among the eight friends gathered for a dinner party...

Kristin Øhrn Dyrud's score for Coherence is interesting from the point of view that it's unusual. It's eerie and very atmospheric and when accompanying the visuals of the movie makes for a powerful experience. However, not everyone will be able to appreciate the music on its own merits - which is understandable as it's a pretty intense score.

The album contains 16 tracks (58 min, 56 sec) and straddles the line between score, experimental electronica and chill out trance music. Personally, while not an album I'd necessarily listen to very often, I found it to be an interesting soundtrack. Its rare that anything new and exciting lands on my desk, but Coherence is certainly a score you should at least take a listen to. You might love it, you might hate it, but one thing is certain, you won't have heard anything like it before.
