La-La Land Records release the soundtrack to Batman: Assault on Arkham, composed by Robert J. Kral. This limited edition CD (1500 units) contains four exclusive tracks not available elsewhere. Batman: Assault on Arkham is a direct-to-video animated movie that sees the government team up with a group of supervillains with the code name Suicide Squad and forces them to break into Arkham Asylum to bring back top secret information the Riddler has stolen. Not surprisingly, Batman soon becomes involved. Things go from bad to worse when one of the Squad (Harley Quinn) frees the Joker, who has the means to not only blow up the asylum, but most of Gotham City as well...

Robert J. Kral's score for Batman: Assault on Arkham is mainly comprised of conventional gothic themes ('Dropping Down'; 'Harley Bait & King Shark's Work'), but there's also a rock track ('Suicide Squad in the Big House') a dance track ('Yahtzee!') as well as an odd, rather cheesy, track ('Criminal Montage'). However, the dark and brooding themes are what you mainly get.

Fans of Batman will not be disappointed by this release. You'll get exactly what you're expecting. And while there may not be a truly memorable theme that stands out from the rest, this is mainly because Kral doesn't focus on a main theme that he then weaves in and out of the score. Instead, he lovingly collects together lots of little bits of interesting music that makes this an album that is rich in neat little themes.

Fans of the movie will enjoy this release, and there are enough interesting segments to make it a score that's worthy of your time even if you haven't seen the film.
