Sony Masterworks releases Marco Beltrami's score for The Giver. This haunting story centres on Jonas, a young man who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colourless, world of conformity and contentment. Yet as he begins to spend time with The Giver, who is the sole keeper of all the community’s memories, Jonas quickly begins to discover the dark and deadly truths of his community’s secret past. With this newfound power of knowledge, he realizes that the stakes are higher than imagined – a matter of life and death for himself and those he loves most. At extreme odds, Jonas knows that he must escape their world to protect them all – a challenge that no one has ever succeeded at before...

Once again Marco Beltrami knocks it out of the park, with his latest score for The Giver. In style, I'd have to say that this is probably closest to his beautiful music for Knowing.

The album contains 20 tracks (49 min, 11 sec). Personal highlights include the beautiful tracks 'First Memory'; 'What Is Love?'; 'The Mountain and Despair'; 'Rosebud' and 'End Credits'.

If you're not a Beltrami fan yet, then this will be the score to sway you. This is right up there with his impressive work on Knowing and Snowpiercer. For me, no one does melancholic scores like James Horner... Beltrami's work here, I'd argue, is up there with some of Horner's best work.
