Screamworks Records releases Ted Masur’s music for Bad Milo!, the quirky cult horror co-written and directed by Jacob Vaughan. The film tells the story of Duncan, an average man toiling at an average office job with no brighter prospects apart from his beautiful wife, Sarah. When Duncan starts to suffer from abdominal pains as a result of his stressful life, he gives birth to a tiny demon housed inside his colon. When his therapist suggests bonding with the creature, Duncan begins his unusual friendship with Milo, who soon enough deserves the “Bad” moniker...

Ted Masur's score to Bad Milo! is inspired by, what to me was, the peak of movie scoring in Hollywood ('80s/'90s). Tracks like 'Firing Montage' and 'Sock Puppets' reminded me of Carter Burwell's score for Being John Malkovich. While tracks like 'Myth of the Anus' are very much in the vein of Danny Elfman's gothic scores. In addition there's a segment of music in 'Milo Returns' and 'Family' that reminded me of James Horner's work on Casper.

It is an interesting score, and while not an essential purchase, still holds enough intriguing themes over the course of its 14 tracks (35 min, 14 sec) to make it worth checking out.
