Invada Records release an expanded, re-mastered edition of the Craig Safan electronic score for the 1985 sci-fi movie Warning Sign. This was one of the first all-electronic film scores, recorded using a Synclavier synthesizer - an incredibly expensive piece of kit at the time ($75,000 in 1983) for the story of a man-made virus that is accidentally released, turning the laboratory workers into zombies...

Craig Safan's electronic score for Warning Sign gets a new release on CD and vinyl, and contains the originally released tracks, as well as an additional 20 minutes of unreleased music.

While this isn't the sort of score I'd want to listen to for enjoyment, technically and historically it's an important collection of tracks. The problem with scores like this is firstly, it's just atmospheric music which never stands up well on its their own merits, and secondly, the technology may have been cutting edge back in the mid-'80s, but it sounds very dated when listened to decades later.

The album contains 29 tracks (54 min, 18 sec) from the composer whose other music credits include The Last Starfighter, Mr. Wong, Nightmare on Elm Street IV and TV's Cheers.

For fans of the original score, and retro electronic music, this is an essential purchase. Everyone else will find it a little odd.
