A Christmas Horror Story
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Composer: Alex Khaskin
Label: Lakeshore Records
RRP: £13.99
Release Date: 11 December 2015

Lakeshore Records release Alex Khaskin's atmospheric festive horror score for A Christmas Horror Story. The movie is an interconnected hair-raising tale of Yuletide terror, with interweaving stories. Christmas: A time of joy, peace and goodwill... unless you live in Bailey Downs. For some folks in this small town Christmas Eve isn’t about getting together with loved ones and exchanging presents - it’s a desperate fight for survival...

Alex Khaskin delivers an interesting collection of themes for A Christmas Horror Story. While the score does have its fair share of cliched horror music cues, there are enough intricate moments to make this album worth checking out.

It opens with the quirky 'Opening Theme - It's Christmas Eve' which cleverly combines a little Yuletide magic along with a few creepy elements. 'Santa's Workshop' reminded me of Danny Elfman's work on movies like Edward Scissorhands.

'The Eyes of a Troll' uses a standard cliched trick to scare the bejesus out of the listener. I hardly ever jump out of my skin when listening to scores, so Khaskin deserves a little more merit for managing to lull the listener into a false sense of security before hitting them with a blast of sound.

The album contains 29 tracks (1 hr, 15 min, 25 sec) and while it is not an essential purchase there's enough interesting material to make it onto your Christmas wish list.
