Varèse Sarabande release Joseph LoDuca's original score for the TV series Ash Vs Evil Dead. The show is a follow-up to the classic horror movie franchise The Evil Dead. Bruce Campbell reprises his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead. When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons - personal and literal. Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its "Evil" grip...

For fans of both The Evil Dead franchise and Bruce Campbell, Ash Vs Evil Dead has been long overdue. This album contains 22 tracks (53 min, 51 sec) representing highlights of the score composed by Joseph LoDuca (who also composed the scores for the original movie trilogy).

It's great that LoDuca has returned to add his Evil Dead touch to the show, but sadly while this is an interesting score, it's not one that works that well as a standalone album.

There's plenty of cliched horror cues and the tongue in cheek Spaghetti Western hero theme, but this is one that is best enjoyed where it was originally intended, alongside the onscreen action. And was that a homage I spotted to John Williams's 'Well of the Souls' (Raiders of the Lost Ark) in 'Sheet Show - Main Title'?

Having said that, I'm sure fans of the show will lap this up.
