With the universe fraying at the seams, Anubis propels the TARDIS team on a trip into the deep, deep past – when the laws of reality were still new…! The Doctor, Gabby and Cindy face a difficult choice, as Anubis’s ticking clock strikes the alarm, and the ancient Osiran’s patience finally runs out! But they’ve dealt with the Son of Sutekh before… Now, armed with a year’s worth of adventures and experience, can the TARDIS triumvirate rewrite the rules of a cosmic game of life and death…?!

Part 2 of 5 of Old Girl, subtitled Primeval, spends very little time developing the threat that was discovered last issue by Gabby and the half-human half-Osiran Dorothy Bell on board the Shining Horizon. Instead, most of the pages of this episode are devoted to the Doctor and Cindy’s trip in the TARDIS “off the chart”.

That’s no bad thing, though, as the planet they end up on is a very exciting planet indeed! I don’t want to say too much about it (as that would spoil the surprise), and I’m not entirely sure which end of time we’re at (there’s evidence both ways), but there are things here that will thrill fans of the new series and old-school readers of Doctor Who Magazine alike! As the Doctor himself says: “I’ve seen something like this before. Long time ago…” It also follows up on a major revelation from a few issues ago, and along the way Cindy proves herself to be highly effective as a solo companion.

We do ultimately return to Gabby, Dorothy and Anubis – and things are not looking good for them as the endgame of Year Two approaches critical mass…

But hang on a minute… Part 2 of 5? The endgame of Year Two? How will that work, when Titan’s ‘years’ usually last for 15 issues? There is clearly some time distortion afoot – this is going to be an extra-long ‘year’, running to 17 issues…!
