Lakeshore Records release François Jolin's original score for Fall of Gods: She is Gone, an illustrated book inspired by Norse mythology, following Vali, a warrior haunted by his past, but who has found peace in the arms of a woman. For years he has lived far from society, tending to his farm and trying to forget the battles he fought... and the crimes he committed. But one day his love disappears, and he must set out to find her. He will once again have to face the creatures of Jotunheim and the powerful Aesir. Suddenly, the man he thought he had buried deep down inside has risen to the surface once more... and he comes seeking vengeance...

François Jolin's score for Fall of Gods: She is Gone is interesting, if not for the music itself, then at least for the medium it's released for. While music composed for books is not a new thing, it's rarer than it should be. This book draws its inspiration from Norse mythology, and Jolin was asked to look to movies including Apocalypto, Braveheart and Noah, to help him establish an initial sound palette.

Of the score's 13 tracks (47 min, 21 sec), personal highlights include the beautiful, atmospheric 'Drangavik'; the sweeping, majestic 'Ambush'; and the haunting 'Wolf's Lair'. The score also includes the original song 'The Call' co-written with, and featuring, Delhia de France.

So, an interesting collection of themes that's worth seeking out.
