Lakeshore Records release Joseph Bishara's score for The Other Side of the Door. In the movie, a family lives an idyllic existence abroad until a tragic accident takes the life of their young son. The inconsolable mother learns of an ancient ritual that will bring him back to say a final goodbye. She travels to an ancient temple, where a door serves as a mysterious portal between two worlds. But when she disobeys a sacred warning to never open that door, she upsets the balance between life and death...

Like any one of a hundred horror scores that floats across my desk, Joseph Bishara's music for The Other Side of the Door is mostly just a cacophony of noise. There are too many tracks where it sounds as though the orchestra is just warming up. Now I am fully aware that it takes a certain type of skill to be able to both compose and perform this style of music, it's just that it doesn't really work for me on any level outside of the confines of the movie. In fact, I'm trying to think of a single instance where I could actually listen to this for pleasure.

Technically flawless, the music is a wonderful accompaniment to the film. It just doesn't lend itself to being released as a standalone album.
