Sony Classical release of Tom Howe's original score for Professor Marston and the Wonder Women. In a superhero origin tale unlike any other, the film is based on the incredible true story of what inspired Harvard psychologist Dr. William Moulton Marston to create the iconic Wonder Woman character in the 1940s. While Marston's feminist superhero was criticized by censors for her “sexual perversity”, he was keeping a secret that could have destroyed him. Marston's muses for the Wonder Woman character were his wife Elizabeth Marston and their lover Olive Byrne, two empowered women who defied convention: working with Marston on human behaviour research – while building a hidden life with him that rivaled the greatest of superhero disguises...

Over the course of this album's 24 tracks (41 min, 19 sec) composer Tom Howe delivers an impressive array of short themes. It's the sort of score you can dip in and out of just as well as listening from start to finish.

'Olive Makes Her Decision' was this score's stand out track for me. On the very first play through it made me stop what I was doing and focus solely on the music. While it's a short piece, it packs a lot of emotion.

The rest of the album is pretty similar in style, in that it delivers short themes, all intricately staged, before moving on to something new. For that feat alone, this album brings something a little fresh to the table and is certainly worth picking up.
