Silva Screen Records release Pino Donaggio’s memorable score to Nicolas Roeg's classic 1973 supernatural thriller, Don't Look Now. Based on a Daphne Du Maurier short story, Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland play a couple who travel to Venice after the tragic death of their daughter...

For collector's of classic scores, long out of print, this new edition of Pino Donaggio's classic score for Don't Look Now reinstates a missing song and reverts to the original track sequence and edit.

It's been a long time since I saw Don't Look Now, and I have to admit that I don't really recall the music, but hearing it here in isolation for the first time I have to admit that this is one score that should have been added to my music library a long time ago.

The album contains 16 tracks (34 min, 18 sec) with composer Pino Donaggio really building the tension and suspense with tracks like 'Through The Streets Of Venice'. Another thing I noticed was that Koji Kondo's 'Zelda Main Theme' ('Overworld Theme') from The Legends of Zelda game seems to have been inspired by 'John's Theme', which runs through the album. It's too close to be a coincidence.

This release includes Iva Zanicchi's "I Colori Di Dicembere" which was released on her 1974 album Amare, Non Amare. The song didn't appear in the movie and was only included on the Italian release of the soundtrack, under the title 'A Venezia... Un Dicembre Rosso Shocking'.

As well as composing the score, Donaggio performed a substantial portion of it himself. He played the piano pieces, despite the fact that he was not very accomplished at playing the piano. These pieces are usually associated with Christine in the film, and Roeg wanted them to have an innocent sound reminiscent of a little girl learning to play the piano.

It's an incredible score, still as fresh today as it was in 1973. If you don't already own this then you really should make sure it's on your wish list.
