MovieScore Media releases another interesting score from Panu Aaltio (Dawn of the Dragonslayer, The Home of Dark Butterflies, The Island of Secrets, Tale of a Forest, Tale of a Lake). Based on the award-winning children’s novel by Paula Noronen, Super Furball tells the story of Emilia whose chance encounter with a guinea pig gives her special powers which she must learn to use. The classic superhero origin story is given a furry twist and an empowering message as Emilia not only uses her gift to stand up to bullies at school, but also solves an environmental crisis that poses a danger to her home in Helsinki...

If you've not come across the music of Panu Aaltio previously, then now is the time to get acquainted with him. Once you hear his music you'll be adding his back catalogue to your music collection. So far, we've been bowled over with every single one of his albums and Super Furball is no exception.

It never ceases to amaze me how some of the most intricate and beautiful scores are composed for films aimed at the younger audience. Aaltio's work here is a masterclass in how to compose for every occasion. On a quick listen through it sounds like a fun, throw away compilation of sweet adventure tracks. But listen to it again and you'll soon discover that it has many layers.

In many ways it reminds me of the work of James Horner. Nowhere is this more evident than in parts of 'Furball Taxi' and 'A Talk with Dad'

Of the album's 24 tracks (57 min, 22 sec) there isn't a wasted moment or even a second of dull filler material but I have to draw attention to the aforementioned 'Furball Taxi' and 'A Talk with Dad', as well as 'Ominous Signs' and 'Classroom Courage' as being some of the most interesting tracks on the album

Aaltio delivers another incredible score. He should be up there with some of Hollywood's most notable composers.
