Square Enix Music and Sony Masterwork releases the soundtrack to Final Fantasy VII: Remake. The score includes 156 tracks (8 hr, 32 min, 58 sec) of original music from composers Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu, Mitsuto Suzuki and others. It also features the game’s end credits theme song 'Hollow' by Yosh. Final Fantasy VII: Remake was released for the PS4 on 10 April 2020 and has since received positive reviews, and awards including The Game Award for Best Score and Music and Best Role Playing Game...

Many moons ago my son was a huge fan of the original release of this game. He loved the music so much that I tracked down several multi-disc soundtrack releases from Japan of different Final Fantasy games. While I played the game a little, I never really got into it all that much, but I did enjoy hearing the soundtrack.

It was interesting to hear this soundtrack from the 2020 remake of Final Fantasy VII. I instantly picked up on a lot of the old familiar themes, which brought a huge smile to my face. This collection represents a much more polished, modern take on some of the tracks, with full orchestral reworkings.

On a technical note, I hope that the MP3 files that are delivered on the finished release are better than the edition we received for review. Firstly they were all listed as though they were on one disc (there are 7 discs in the collection), they were not ordered correctly and half of the titles were cut short... So I spent a good hour trying to get them into some sort of order.

Also there's a little bit of a confusion over the various releases of this soundtrack. I think there's another with songs - but I'm not really sure of the content - which has the same cover on online stores. The one you want, the one I am reviewing, currently retails for over £30, but has way more tracks (156 in total).

Eight and a half hours of listening pleasure is just too much of an incentive, and makes this an essential purchase. The final track, 'Credits' (12 min, 47 sec) is almost worth the asking price on its own.
