Joss Whedon's cult sci-fi Western series
Firefly may have had a curtailed existence on TV, but it has since become a phenomenon on DVD, spawning the hit movie Serenity and inspiring legions of dedicated fans, whose numbers are still growing today. This, the first of two lavishly illustrated official companions, is a must, whether you're already a loyal Browncoat, or just discovering the 'Verse...

Firefly: The Official Companion - Volume One contains 176 full colour glossy pages and is a must own collection for Firefly/Serenity fans.

In all honesty, this is not your run-of-the-mill Companion book. The majority of the text is made up of scripts from several of the episodes. I've never been a huge fan of script books but, to be honest, that's not a real problem here as there are so many illustrations that you don't feel like you are flicking through a dry script collection. In fact the title is a little misleading - it's really a script book with tons of other information thrown in for good measure.

It's a good solid book that you can easily dip in and out of without feeling the need to read from cover to cover.

There are fairly lightweight interviews with all the cast as well as key members of the crew - there's nothing here that most fans won't already know. However, the end result is a nice coffee table edition that will take pride of place in any serious fans collection.

Titan have done an amazing job on the presentation side of things - turning an okay book into something that looks and feels better than it actually is.
