The final days of the Clone Wars have come. As the Republic and its Jedi order hurtle towards their tragic and unforeseeable end, hope remains alive in those who refuse to forsake their duty, and who would not see their beliefs perish, nor their friends abandoned...

Beneath the cratered surface of Saleucami, the Dark Jedi Sora Bulq has begun cloning an army of Morhukai assassins. Unwilling to leave this grave new threat unchecked, the Republic soon finds itself entrenched in a five-month siege. Now, time and resources have run out, and it's up to Jedi Quinlan Vos and Aayla Secure to infiltrate the Separatists base and defeat Bulq before his plans are complete.

The Last Siege, the Final Truth is the eighth volume in the Clone Wars collection. To be honest, when you strip this tale down to its bare bones there's very little that happens. This collection concludes the saga of undercover Jedi Quinlan Vos and... er... that's about all that happens.

Now, that may sound like a complaint, but it's not. I was really happy to see that author John Ostrander was allowed to flesh out the final act in this segment of the Clone Wars series. Sure everything that is revealed could have been told in one issue instead of the six issues of Dark Horse's Star Wars: Republic comic series it was originally published in... but then all the subtleties, all the beauty of this strip would not have been half as impressive if Ostrander has wrapped everything up quickly.

The "is he, isn't he?" question mark that hangs over Quinlan Vos's real motives needed some breathing space in order to make the final pages pay off as well as they do. Even in the closing panels the reader is still not sure whether he is working for the Dark Side, or is truly a loyal Jedi, and it's this element that provides some very interesting jeopardy.

Star Wars fans will applaud the clever writing, as well as the beautiful art work. And to be honest this is far more than just another Star Wars collection - it's a work of art that belongs in a gallery. Quite frankly amazing.
