While Al defends himself against the transmuted Barry the Chopper, Ed discovers more about the dark alchemy experiments deep within Lab Five. But the biggest threat of all may be Ed's own morality, as he's tempted with the ultimate power he's been seeking for years. Hughes issues an order to allow Armstrong, Bloch, and Ross to investigate what's going on inside the 5th laboratory. Now Ed sees that Tucker was hiding the fact that there were human prisoners involved in the making of the stone... and that Ed would have unknowingly killed them. But Lust has Al held hostage... forcing Ed to attempt the unthinkable. Meanwhile, Al's recurring questions about his existence come to a boil. Was there ever an Alphonse Elric? Or are his memories and soul artificially created lies...?

Captured Souls is the sixth volume in the Full Metal Alchemist series, and has a few surprises in store as Ed finally gets the chance to get hold of the philosopher's stone, but there is a price to pay.

In The Red Glow, the battle between Al and Number 66 is interrupted by the appearance of Scar. In another part of the building Ed and Number 48 have reached the inner sanctum of the Fifth Laboratory. Ed's morality is challenged by a familiar figure (although while the person is known to Ed, he looks quite a lot different); will Ed give in to the temptation of the power he has been seeking, or will he hold true to his beliefs?

Created Human: Ed learns the truth behind the construction of the Fifth Laboratory. It was originally designed to be used as a biological research facility for the military. He is nearly fooled into performing a heinous act, but he manages to escape only to discover that Envy has taken Al hostage. Meanwhile, Hughes has ordered Armstrong and the other state alchemists to find out what is going on in the Laboratory.

In Heart of Steel, Ed and Al are recovering in hospital. After realising that she failed to make proper repairs to the two brothers last time, Winry has travelled to Central to sort everything out. As they recuperate, Al sits in silent contemplation. Are his memories of being human real, or is it all a lie?

Bonding Memories: Still troubled by the uncertainty of his own existence, Al takes off in order to get his thoughts in order. He discovers a hidden Ishbalen camp, where survivors of the Ishbal have been living. He he meets up once again with Scar, who is recovering. When mercenaries arrive and begin slaughtering the Ishbalens, Al finds himself helping Scar as they defend the Ishbal massacre survivors.

For some reason this release is available in two different packaging formats. You can either pick this up in a standard pack, or a special edition metal tin release - both retailing for the same price. I can't really see the point in the metal packaging - unless it's to try and attract new buyers to the series. Those that have been collecting the series so far will probably want to keep the packaging the same for their collection.

Extras, are pretty thin on the ground. All we get are the same old textless opening and closing titles, as well as production art.

At the end of the day this release is extremely entertaining. Fans will not be disappointed.
