The three Papermasters Michelle, Maggie and Anita have the
ability to control paper to make tools and weapons together
they form the Paper Sisters Detective Company. As they battle
to stop the insane plans of The British Library to resurrect
their dead leader, have the girls paid the ultimate price
for freedom?...
Volume
Six - The End of a Dream, takes up where episode twenty
left off, with Michelle, Junior and Maggie apparently killed
in the helicopter crash which closed the last disc. This is
another plot rich, dark disc which belies the show's fluffy
beginnings.
Episode twenty-one, Dream or Die, and Anita apparently
finds herself back at school; meanwhile Yomiko finds a secret
stock of books which has been hidden from the British Library's
wholesale destruction by Todo. Anita, however, is not at work
but under the control of the British Library who are still
after the Book of the all Seeing Eye which Anita believes
was destroyed in the helicopter crash. Anita is out for revenge
so she decides to team up with Yomiko to kidnap Joker. During
this episode we also discover what really happened to Junior
and the girls in the crash, as Joker demands Anita's surrender
as the price for her friends lives. She creates a massive
paper plane and flies off taking Joker and Yomiko with her.
Episode
twenty-two, Seize, and the military net is closing
in on the survivors of the helicopter crash. Junior unfortunately
discovers that having removed his homing beacon he can no
longer phase. The survivors gradually discover one another
and hide out in a cabin waiting for all of their company to
assemble, but time is running out and it is uncertain whether
Anita can get to them before the military capture them.
The last episode, Lie to Me, sees the girls holding
Joker, but still on the run from the American military. A
deal is brokered to arrange their release in return for Nenene
Sumiregawa, but Wendy has no intention of trusting the deal
and with good reason. Before the exchange can be finalised
Joker tells Anita that she is a clone produced by The British
Library as are her two sisters, though they were produced
by Dokusensha.
Another
great disc, though only three episodes, I guess that they
are saving the last four for the next release. Without a doubt
this show just keeps getting better and darker as it progresses.
The
extras on Volume Six keep up the good quality that
has been the mark of the previous releases. First up is the
commentary with the director and many of the English vocal
actors. As usual it's a little informative but mostly a lot
of fun and covers the first episode on the DVD. An Art Gallery
has been throw in with various completed pictures and character
sketches which contains a disappointing nine pics. To complete
the extras you get a bunch of trailers, the Japanese episode
previews for the three on this disc and the DVD credits.
The
visual on the disc continues to show the good quality of encoding,
with the colours remaining crisp. Audio is either English
or Japanese 5.1 or Japanese stereo, subtitles are included
as well as a signs only option.
