NHL 2K7 introduces a completely new skating engine to give users a true on-ice movement experience. Additionally, Pro Control receives new enhancements to both offensive and defensive controls, giving hockey fans thrilling new ways to attack and defend on the ice...

The latest addition to the NHL series of games from 2K Sports includes hundreds of new skating animations. Also included are several new checking, passing, and shooting animations making the action in NHL 2K7 flow with amazing detail.

New gameplay enhancements have been added to 'Pro Control', giving users offensive and defensive tools to use on the ice. While on offence, players now have the ability to execute drop passes, allowing users to set-up new screen plays and create new scoring opportunities to catch the goalie off-guard. 'Pressure Control' brings a tactical element to defensive hockey as players now can instruct team-mates to defend opposing players while on the ice. Varying degrees of pressure can be selected - whether it's telling your team-mate to shadow a selected opponent or deliver a big check - allowing players new defensive options on the fly.

However, the biggest noticeable difference between 2K7 and 2K6 is the introduction of Cinemotion. This adds new camera angles, commentary and music to the gaming experience. While the later two are not that impressive, the new improved camera angles are, on the whole, an improvement. This sees the camera angles changing to give an almost cinematic look to the game. The only real negative of this is that when the camera zooms in on you, as you rush towards your opponents goal, finding other members of your team to pass to is a little tricky.

Also despite the aforementioned tweaks to the 'Pro Control' system - which was added to 2K6 - I didn't really notice any overall benefits over last years offering. To be honest the few upgrades on offer are hardly likely to make you want to shell out again for a game you already own. However, at £20 this is well worth picking up if you don't already own 2K6.
