A selection of songs, nursery rhymes, stories, puzzles and tongue-twisters performed by Sophie Aldred and Richard Mitchley...

Pat-a-Cake is a collection of songs, nursery rhymes, tongue twisters, jokes and stories that are loosely related to shopping. Sophie Aldred (Doctor Who's Ace) and Richard Mitchley perform with the odd inclusion by uncredited children.

Songs include: Shopping Theme; To Market to Market; This Little Pig; Betty Botter's Butter; Pat-a-cake; Hot Cross Buns; Have you seen the Muffin Man?; What can we buy in the Greengrocer's Shop?; Greengrocer's Alphabet Song; Oranges and Lemons; Better Buy a Bigger Basket; A Tisket a Tasket; Polly puts the Kettle On; There's a Hole in my Bucket; Sing a Song of Sixpence; Simple Simon; Odd One Out; Cockles and Mussels; Pop goes the Weasel; Rub a Dub Dub; Beth's Birthday Present; Hush Little Baby; and Shopping Reprise.

Instead of the usual collection of songs that most pre-school CDs contain, this release actually has an interesting theme that sees Aldred (playing mummy) and Mitchley (as daddy) embarking on a number of chores. They go shopping for groceries and then for items to do a bit of DIY around the house. The songs, jokes, tongue twisters and nursery rhymes are neatly slotted in to the story without feeling forced.

This makes for an interesting CD and instead of listening to another dull children's compilation CD, adults can also listen and interact with their young children - which makes this fun for parents and children alike.

It's great to see that the BBC are producing CDs for young children of this calibre, and at such a low price. Certainly one CD that all young children should have in their collection.
