Jacqueline Wilson has sold over 20 million books in the UK and has been awarded an OBE for services to literacy in schools. Among her many awards are the Smarties Prize, the
Guardian Children's Fiction Award and the Blue Peter's People's Choice Award. Kiss is a moving, compelling novel of first love and first heartbreak read by the author...

Sylvie and Carl have been friends since they were tiny children. They've always played together, eaten meals with each other's families, called each other boyfriend and girlfriend... and deep down, Sylvie has always believed that they'll end up married to each other. They even have a magical fantasy world that belongs to them alone - as does the Glass Hut where it's all created, at the bottom of Carl's garden.

But as they become teenagers, things begin to change. They go to different schools and have different friends. Sylvie still wishes she could spend all her time with Carl. But Carl has a new friend, Paul, who is taking all his attention. Carl seems much less happy to be called Sylvie's boyfriend and in a game of spin the bottle, he avoids kissing her. Sylvie can tell his feelings have changed and that her plans for the future may be affected. But can she guess at the true reasons behind it all?

A delicately handled treatment of teenage relationships from mega-bestselling, award-winning author Jacqueline Wilson.

Wilson puts her heart into the reading she gives here, and it's hard not to get sucked into the story. At over seven hours, this is a pretty impressive collection which is ideal for young girls to listen to at bedtime.

On the presentation side, I have one point I'd like to get off my chest. The BBC seems to have employed new packaging for their 6 CD collections - and it's not good. This is the second CD collection we've received here in the office (the other being Michael Palin: New Europe) and both had the same problem. The plastic arms that hold the hinges in place (so that you can flip the CD trays over) are so fragile that they will easily break. Both CD sets arrived with the tray that houses disc one and two unhinged. Getting it back so that you can flip the tray over is not easy and if you force it too much it will easily break. With the Kiss collection, the compartment that opens to allow you to gain access to the last three CDs was jammed shut and it took a serious amount of force to prise them apart. I know that at £20 this is a fairly cheap collection, but even so some sturdier packaging would have been nice.

That slight grumble apart, this is another entertaining tale from Wilson.
