Gotham City is plagued with crime and corruption in places high and low, but one man has taken a stand against evil of all forms: the dark avenger known as Batman. Now, in this huge, low-priced collection of Batman's adventures with his own super-team, The Outsiders, the Dark Knight is joined by Black Lightning, Geo-Force, Halo, Katana, Looker and Metamorpho as they take on villains including Agent Orange, the Fearsome Five, the Force of July and the Masters of Disaster...

Showcase Presents: Batman and the Outsiders: Volume 1 is a value-packed volume, which deals with Batman's formation of the original Outsiders. Metamorpho, Black Lightning, Katana, Halo and Geo-Force star in these stories from Batman and The Outsiders #1 - 19, Brave & Bold #200 and New Teen Titans #16.

Batman has been an integral member of the famed Justice League of America (JLA) since its inception - helping the group in saving the world numerous times. But when a trusted friend goes missing in the war-torn country of Markovia, Batman seeks the help of his fellow JLA members for a rescue mission - and is rejected. The World's greatest superheros have made a promise to the State Department not to interfere in the ailing country's affairs, which leaves Batman with only one choice.

Enter: The Outsiders. Black Lightning, electrical powerhouse; Metamorpho, elemental shapeshifter; Katana, wielder of the Soultaker sword; Halo, multipowered Aurakle; and Markovia's own Geo-Force, whose power comes from the earth. Together Batman leads his new ragtag team of Outsiders to tackle the problems of the world that no one elses dares to face.

At just under 550 pages, this collection will keep fans entertained for quite some time. The only slight problem is that the entire volume is reprinted in black and white - which might put some potential readers off. Although, in all honesty, once you get wrapped up in the story it doesn't actually matter. This could be the best £13 you part with.
