It is inevitable that with any successful genre show there would be a plethora of books on the subject and few do them as well as Telos who have published Something in the Darkness: The Unofficial and Unauthorised Guide to Torchwood Series Two by Stephen James Walker.

Walker wrote Inside The Hub, the companion to season one and has had an extensive career writing authoritative reference material related to Doctor Who, so it is no surprise that his latest book should be pack full with just about everything you may want to know about Torchwood, and then some.

The bulk of the book is taken up with the episode guide which looks at each of the stories plots, any memorable quotes, continuity points production notes and press reaction. Where this section comes into its own is partially in the fan comments but mostly in Walker's analysis of each episode. You may not agree with him, but he makes a good argument for his personal views.

The first section of the book is an interesting look at the press reaction to the first series, including its worldwide sales, before progressing on to the preproduction for the second season and its transmission. The book closes with a number of appendixes which look at the various spin offs from the show.

If you’re a Torchwood fan, then this is probably the most fact filled and informative book on the market at the moment. Unfortunately, not being an official guide, there are no pictures.
