Combining dark orchestral textures with a strikingly melodic beauty, Johan Söderqvist has written a truly unique score for Let the Right One In. Tomas Alfredson’s film is based on the vampire novel by John Ajvide Lindqvist and has won numerous international awards. The music is performed by the Slovak National Symphony Orchestra...

Let the Right One In (Låt den Rätte Komma in) is a Swedish romantic horror film directed by Tomas Alfredson. The film follows a young boy who forms a friendship with a young vampire girl.

After hearing a sample (part of 'Eli's Theme') of this score on Moviescore Media's website I was really looking forward to hearing the entire soundtrack. The finished score represents a good balance of styles and moods (with the occasional nod to themes from the world of popular classical music appearing throughout).

However, 'Eli's Theme' is certainly the stand out track on this album with the other segments mainly being atmospheric pieces. That's not to say that there aren't other inspired segments. The opening track 'The Arrival' is also worthy of note, as is 'Oscar Strikes Back', 'The Father', and 'Let the Right One In'.

While, on balance I enjoyed this score, there were a few too many tracks that seemed included as fillers. And while they may have sounded fine in the movie, to heighten the scene, they don't work quite so well as stand alone tracks.

Still, if you cut through the filling, there's enough quality material here to make it worth purchasing the CD.
