31/01/12 - New Beauty and the Beast plot details

news picAs we've previously reported, the '80s Ron Perlman/Linda Hamilton sci-fi fantasy series Beauty and the Beast is to be rebooted, but now plot details of the series have been released.

According to Moviehole the new series will have a different set up from the original. Catherine and Vincent first meet when she's younger. When Catherine's mother is killed in a car-jacking, Vincent is the one who snatches the young girl and saves her from the same fate.

Years later, Catherine is now a New York City cop who comes across Vincent, the beast, at an old abandoned chemical warehouse during an investigation. She is taken back by Vincent, but despite his features, trusts him. At his request, Catherine promises not to let anyone know his whereabouts, let alone that he's alive.

Vincent worked as a doctor at the New York University hospital - and was working on 11 September 2001 when the towers came down. Here a wounded Vincent ends up in a medical clinic where he's injected with a DNA-changing drug. The drug turns him into an unstoppable soldier. Unfortunately, the strength and stamina comes with a price... it also changes Vincent's looks - in particular, he sprouts hair everywhere.

This new version is being written by Jennifer Levin (Felicity) and Sherri Cooper (Brothers and Sisters) and co-executive produced by Ron Koslow, creator of the '80s series.

Marvel has already confirmed that Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 will be released in 2013, and in a recent interview with Empire, Neal McDonough [pictured], who played Dum Dum Dugan in Captain America: The First Avenger, said: "They're planning (to go into production for) Captain America 2 for the end of this year, because Marvel does one film at a time. So they're going to do Thor 2 and as soon as Thor 2 has wrapped, they'll do Cap 2.

"Hopefully right after that, we'll jump into Nick Fury because that's the one I'm looking forward to more than anything... it'll be me and Sam Jackson. In the real Marvel universe, Dum Dum Dugan is Nick Fury's right hand man.

"I just pray that they have a 1970s setting, because I want to see Sam Jackson with lambchops kicking people's asses for (the) Marvel universe. It would just be awesome. And to work with Sam would be a treat."

19/01/12 - No more blockbusters for Lucas

news picIn a recent interview with the New York Times, Star Wars creator George Lucas [pictured] revealed that he won’t be making any more big-budget films, with the possible exception of another Indiana Jones movie.

The director revealed that he’ll be embarking on a "new destiny" after he takes a step back from the blockbuster movie business.

He cited the growing animosity for him among film fans as one of the main reasons for his retirement. “On the Internet, all those same guys that are complaining I made a change are completely changing the movie,” he said, referencing fans who have made their own re-edits of the famous sci-fi franchise. “I’m saying: ‘Fine. But my movie, with my name on it, that says I did it, needs to be the way I want it.’

“Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are? I’m moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff.”

Producer Rick McCallum, explained: “Once this is finished, he’s done everything he’s ever wanted to do. He will have completed his task as a man and a filmmaker.”

Lucas said that he will continue to make films, but he’s more interested in smaller-scale movies that are personal, and similar to those he made while at USC film school in the 1960s. The only blockbuster project he’s leaving open as a possibility is a fifth outing for Indiana Jones.

news picThe Marvel Comics freelancer Gary Friedrich, who created Ghost Rider, has lost his lawsuit to claim ownership of the character.

The judge said Friedrich relinquished his rights to Ghost Rider when he endorsed and cashed cheques from Marvel. Those cheques contained language relinquishing all rights. Friedrich’s lawyer said he would file an appeal.
