The Ghost of Tara has disappeared. At first Willow thought it was because of something she'd done - or worse, that the universe was again conspiring to hurt her. But ultimately she learns that Buffy and the gang are the culprits. Willow desperately wants Tara back. Not only does she miss her immensely, the spirit's presence is necessary to perform the resurrection spell Willow's been working on. Buffy and the Scoobies hope to drain Willow's power, and release Spike and Oz from their enslavement. But Willow's anger is endless, and it seems she'll stop at nothing in her fight to bring Tara back, no matter what the cost...

Broken Sunrise is the final instalment of the Wicked Willow trilogy, and makes up for everything the other two lacked. One hell of a good conclusion, to what had been a very, very slow beginning, this book has a bit of everything, and is amazingly dark and gory for a Buffy story!

By trying to negotiate with Willow over the return of the Ghost of Tara, the Scoobies discover how far gone she is, and that her rage is all consuming at this stage. When she finds out that they are holding her lover captive, her anger overcomes even her love of Tara and she goes all out to destroy the gang in the most gory, painful way. Without giving too much away, I'll just mention paralysis and slowly being eaten alive. You getting the picture..?

Through all this, Buffy is trying to work out a way to bring Willow back from the dark, plus Oz and Spike make a well-needed return to this book when Willow frees them (in a way) as part of the negotiations. You do get to see glimpses of what she calls weakness but what we'd see as compassion. Then comes the attempted resurrection spell, and all goes badly as Tara had foretold. Willow comes full circle back to how the series' version of events ended, so we still get Xander being the hero he deserves to be.

An excellent conclusion to what was an otherwise dull series. Even if you don't want to read the others, you've still definitely got to pick this up just to be surprised by the gore factor alone!
