Rebecca Bennett, the estranged stepdaughter of a well-to-do
Las Vegas businessman, is hounding the Las Vegas Police Department
to reopen the investigation into her mother Rita's death -
alleging that, despite appearances to the contrary, Rebecca's
greedy stepfather actually played a hand in Rita Bennett's
untimely end. But no one is prepared for the news that CSI's
Gil Grissom, Sara Sidle, and Nick Stokes report - their investigation
is inconclusive... because the disinterred deceased is not
Rita Bennett. Meanwhile, at the Sunny Day Continuing Care
Facility, Catherine Willows and Warrick Brown must investigate
the sudden demise of Vivian Elliot - a patient whose death
may be the result of unnatural causes....

Allan Collins weaves another intricate CSI tale in
Grave Matters. This time the Las Vegas crime lab are
called upon to examine the death of the wife of a rich businessman.
Despite what appears to be a fairly cut and dry case, the
dead woman's daughter is convinced that foul play was involved.
This
book is a little more meatier than the previous two CSI:
Miami books published by the author - as though Collins
is more at home on this series. While his previous books have
been entertaining enough, this story really hits home as a
job well done.
Unlike
the previous CSI: Miami books, Grave Matters
would probably work well as a stand alone TV episode. The
characters' dialogue is believable and you can well imagine
each actor speaking the lines Collins gives them.
Fans
of the TV series will certainly appreciate Collins's work
on Grave Matters. Lets hope that future books are up
to the same high standard.
