Set in a 19th century European village, this stopmotion, animated feature follows the story of Victor, a young man who is whisked away to the underworld and wed to a mysterious Corpse Bride, while his real bride, Victoria, waits bereft in the land of the living. Though life in the Land of the Dead proves to be a lot more colourful than his strict Victorian upbringing, Victor learns that there is nothing in this world, or the next, that can keep him away from his one true love. It's a tale of optimism, romance and a very lively afterlife, told in a classic Tim Burton style...

An Invitation to the Wedding is the official behind the scenes companion to the Corpse Bride animated movie, featuring storyboards, movie stills and Tim Burton's own drawings.

The movie carries on in the dark, romantic tradition of Tim Burton's classic films Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas. This official visual companion showcases movie stills, sketches, paintings, and drawings. Covering preproduction, production, and post-production, sections detail character realisation, set development and construction, puppet fabrication, costuming, and stop-motion filming.

The final third of this book tells the whole story of the movie with plenty of images from the movie. To be honest, this was the section of the book which I felt was used as a bit of a filler in order to pad the book out. The story is stripped down to the bare bones (excuse the pun) as though for a young reader, yet the rest of the content of this book is very much aimed at the more mature reader. This simplistic retelling of the story just seems a little redundant here.

That slight moan aside, this is still an excellent book. If you've seen the movie, or your a fan of Burton's twisted gothic style, then this is a book that you'll get a lot of pleasure from.

This is the perfect accompaniment to the movie.
