21st century Neo-Tokyo lies in ruins thanks to the telekinetic fury of superhuman child Akira - one of a number of experiments gone wrong on human subjects. Now the people of Tokyo look towards this boy as their king and bringing him to justice will not be a simple matter...

It is almost 20 years since Akira made its debut and still the story is as gripping today as it was then. Otomo's artwork is timeless and his story telling faultless, showing a darker side to humanity than most of us would like to believe exists.

This volume represents almost 400 pages of fine art and is not for those looking for a light read. It unravels the mystery surrounding the origins of Lady Miyako.

For those serious about comics this is a must. But don't dip in here! You won't have a clue what is going on. It's much more satisfying to read volumes 1-3 first (obviously).

For those who still think comics are for kids, then get your head stuck into this.
