It is the end of the 19th century, and the city of New York has been plagued by strange events - fish falling from the sky, odd lights in the night, bizarre collections of microbial goo... and disappearing citizens. It's up to one man to expose the truth behind these mysteries. A mild mannered librarian by day, Charles Fort is a fearless investigator by night, seeking out the truth and exposing the bizarre to the light of day...

Fort: Prophet of the Unexplained is an interesting release. The hero of this graphic novel is actually based on the real-life Charles Fort, chronicler of unexplained event - although I doubt that anything as bizarre as the tale told here would have actually happened to him.

When someone, or something, is rampaging through late 19th century America, killing innocent humans, Fort is thought to be behind it. And, with an alien from another dimension, he sets sets out to capture the real monster and, in doing so, prove his innocence.

This collection is presented in simple black and white ink drawings, which help give the story an olde world feel to it. The story itself is simple and to the point and there are no real surprises, but it is entertaining enough.

Not the sort of novel to get you thinking, but still an interesting edition to Titan's range.
