They are the World's greatest heroes - Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter... each a mighty force to be reckoned with in their own right, but together they are the ultimate, world-shaking, gob-smacking dream team - The Justice League of America...

In this, the second volume of The Obsidian Age, the JLA go into action to save the people of Atlantis, who have been enslaved by their own ancestors. But arriving in the ancient city, the JLA encounter another League, the Destroyers, and are soon drawn into a battle that it looks like they may not win.

Great artwork, and an adequate storyline, help to drag the reader in to a believable plot. You might even, for a second, be sucked into thinking that the JLA are doomed. The artwork is a little too gruesome in places - seeing all you JLA favourites decaying before your eyes is a little unnerving.

The story never takes itself too seriously. Every time Batman skulks around Plastic Man is never far away to lighten the mood - although there is a touching Plastic Man moment that makes you feel sorry for the annoying SOB.

The conclusion is a little bit of an anticlimax (especially after the cliff-hanger that ended book one) but as the conclusion to the two volume collection it does the job.

Not one of the greatest JLA stories ever told, but entertaining enough.
