being paralysed from the waist down, former Batgirl Barbara
Gordon took on the persona of information cyber lord Oracle
and began a successful crime-fighting partnership with the
Black Canary. But when the two femme fatales are confronted
by Savant, a villain whose physical and mental abilities equal
their own, they become drawn into a deadly and elaborate trap...
Like Minds is
a great read. It follows the fragile working relationship
of ex-Batgirl, Barbara Gordon (now better known as Oracle),
the Green Arrow's ex-girlfriend the Black Canary, and rogue
are some pretty neat areas touched on in this collection including
the homosexual slant taken with Savant's super butch minder;
the fact that Savant mimics the Black Canary when he is placed
in a similar position to that which he had previously enforced
onto her; and dealing with disabilities - not through the
obvious route of Oracle, but through Black Canary.
are plenty of throw away gags, but by far my favourite was
the surprise by some hoods that Black Canary wasn't of ethnic
origin like other superheroes with the prefix "Black".
This, rather comically tackles the racist attitude of some
of the early comic books.
also refreshing to see a collection which has two very separate
stories, but ones that are continuations on a theme. All too
often in these collections you get involved in a story and
it ends too quickly, you turn the page and a new plot starts
to unfold. What Of Like Minds delivers is a lot slicker.
written and beautifully illustrated, this
collection kicks some serious ass!
