Now that he has a universe of his own to look after, Lucifer Morningstar has plenty of work to go around. He has secured a ship and a crew to discharge one of his last responsibilities in this old Creation - freeing the soul of the half-angel Elaine Belloc from torment in the mapless realm between Heaven and Hell known as the Mansions of Silence. But while the Naglfar, a ship made from dead men's fingernails, and her crew fight their way through the borderlands of eternity, Lucifer is preparing to finally open the eyes of his angelic brethren to the mind - and the plans - of their Creator...

Mansions of Silence represents another trip into the dark realms of Lucifer Morningstar. Lucifer plays more of a background role in this collection, with the crew of the bizarre Naglfar ship taking centre stage.

There is a whole heap of weird stuff going on. But don't think, if you are new to this series, that you'll be any less clued in on events as those of us who have been following its progress since it started. Thankfully though, there is a quick run down of the main characters at the start of the book - or at least the main crew of the Naglfar.

I did feel that the constant change of artist detracted greatly from this collection. It would have been so much easier to swallow if the same illustrator had been onboard for the duration. This is mainly because of the subplots. At times I wasn't sure whether we were beginning a whole new story, or whether the author was just going off on a tangent for a while.

Despite my reservations, this is still twisted, bleak and very entertaining.
