Calvin is an orphan who lives out his dream of becoming a basketball player - with a little help from a magical pair of trainers. Soon after he steps into the mysterious shoes, Calvin's amazing athletic skills land him a position on an all-star team. With this dream fulfilled he sets his sights on another dream... having a real family. But first he and his pals must defeat Bittleman, the orphanage headmaster trying to sabotage Calvin's career and dash his hopes of ever being adopted...

Teen rap sensation Lil Bow Wow makes his feature film debut in this heart-warming comedy. And it works well with him in the lead. Let's get this straight. Shakespeare this ain't, but there have been worse kids films in recent years.

There are some painfully funny moments including the scene where suitable adoptive parents are interviewed to adopt Mike. One couple think it appropriate to sing The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow from Annie - because she was an orphan too!

Crispin Glover - remember him from Back to the Future? - stars as the twisted orphanage headmaster. But he just looks and acts like an older, meaner George McFly - which is a bit spooky.

The biggest complaint I had about this movie was the blatant amount of on-screen advertising. Forget the Fanta and Staples in-your-face product placement and let's concentrate on the trainers which are at the heart of the movie. Nike must have paid a fortune! I'm surprised they didn't try to call the movie Like Mike's Nike!

There are plenty of extra features to keep you happy including audio commentary by John Schultz, Lil Bow Wow and Jonathan Lipnicki; Featurette Off The Hook And On The Set; Three deleted scenes with optional director commentary; Making of featurette - 'Bow Wow's bow'; Music promo; and 'Basketball' music video.

One for the kids!
