Stargate - The Director's Cut: In 1928, an ancient Egyptian artefact covered in strange symbols is excavated at the foot of the Great Pyramids. Decades later the American Government recruits the help of Egyptologist Dr Daniel Jackson to decode the secret of these symbols. He reveals the key to a "stargate", an intergalactic portal to the far side of the known universe. Jackson is joined by a crack military unit led by Colonel O'Neill on a voyage of discovery. Through the stargate they find themselves in a futuristic desert ruled by the godlike King Ra. Unwittingly Jackson has reopened a space/time corridor that the ancient Egyptians closed to this despotic ruler centuries ago. The band of explorers can only imagine the power that they have unleashed and the adventure that is about to unfold...

Deep Star Six: After six months of confinement, tempers are running short among the 11 strong crew of Deep Star Six, a secret undersea research laboratory whose mission is to reconstruct an underwater nuclear missile launch platform. After the base commander, Dr. John Van Gelder, orders the excavation crew to explode a cavern, the command centre is attacked and communication with the crew is broken. With structural damage increasing and oxygen supplies decreasing, the remaining crew members make a startling discovery...

Flash Gordon: Flash Gordon is zapped from Earth into a sci-fi adventure on planet Mongo with his beautiful companion Dale. In an attempt to put an end to Ming the Merciless' plans to destroy the Earth, Flash battles Ming's goons and declines the advances of the luscious Space Princess Aura. With the help of Prince Vultan Flash Gordon takes the Ming Empire by storm...

Stargate: The Director's Cut is without a doubt the best movie in this collection. Both Deep Star Six and Flash Gordon are well below par, but worth watching if you've never seen them.

Even though all three movies are showing their age, there's no denying that this collection represents excellent value for money. At just over £5 per DVD this is certainly worth picking up - especially if you never managed to pick up the Stargate DVD when it was originally released.
