The world's temperature is rising producing unbearable heat over the globe. The reason for this climate change is the result of nuclear tests conducted by the American and Russians which has inadvertently knocked the Earth off its axis and it is down to one paper in the heart of London, England to unearth what is going on and inform the world...

Available in the UK for the first time Network Video has done this movie proud. Val Guest's apocalyptic vision is brought to life with very few visual effects. The director instead relying on his strong cast and eerie settings to convey the gravity of the situation.

The Day the Earth Caught Fire is arguably a landmark in British science fiction films. This is one of the most disturbing movies to be made and a film that every sci-fi nut should have in their DVD collection.

Even more scary is the fact that Val Guest and Edward Judd were involved with the hideous Cannon and Ball 1982 movie The Boys in Blue. Guest was, unbelievably responsible for writing and directing. A heinous crime that they should have been burned alive for. But then they do say there is a fine line between genius and insanity.

But then this review is about The Day the Earth Caught Fire and thankfully both Guest and Judd are at their peak. A classic that is as fresh today as the day it received its cinematic release.
